Thursday, December 193:30—5:30 PMLocated in the Teen Room

Bring your own supplies or use ours. You can make things at home or here at the library. Adults and teens or anyone who knows how to knit or crochet is welcome. This is a drop in program and does not need registration. If you are already a Somers volunteer, you can earn community hours and if you aren't please sign up online.

From our local girl scout-  "I have worked with the teen librarian to create this program Threading Warmth Through Winter because I am working on my gold award. For my gold award I have a goal of creating over 200 handmade winter essentials for the homeless so they can be warm this upcoming winter. I know many shelters lack winter gear and I am trying to help solve that issue which is why I am seeking help from my community because I can’t do this alone. In this program we will be joining together to crochet or knit hats, gloves/mittens, and scarves. If you don’t know how to crochet I can teach you how to do a simple square or you can do a no sew hat or scarf which I will also be showing you how to do. The library is generously donating yarn for this program and all products will be donated to Hope Community Service. I would love it and would appreciate it so much if you could try to make it to one of my meetings or even drop off some goods to donate. I am specifically working with a shelter named Hope in New Rochelle. Hope is a Community Service Organization. They provide emergency food services, housing, clothes, hats, scarves, gloves, and other resources to those in need. So I hope with your help and Hope many people who need it will stay warm this winter."
