The Somers Library Classic Book Group meets to discuss “Emma,” by Jane Austen

Available to attend in-person or virtually via Zoom,

First published in 1816, this book is set in Highbury, England, in the early 19th Century, the novel centers on Emma Woodhouse, a precocious young woman whose misplaced confidence in her matchmaking abilities occasions several romantic adventures. As with her other novels, Austen explores the concerns and difficulties of genteel women living in Georgian-Regency England. The book is a comedy of manners.

The Somers Library Classic Book Group discusses classic titles recommended by the group, identified by surveys, and facilitated by Librarian Diana Cunningham. The group meets bimonthly on Monday nights. Meetings are hybrid (depending on weather) and open to all interested Somers residents. Copies of the current title to be discussed are available at the Library.

Our programs are supported by the Friends of the Somers Library through our patrons' generous contributions.
