Somers Library Book Group meets to discuss “Frankenstein: or The Modern Prometheus” by Mary Woll

This is Mary Shelley’s seminal novel of the experimental scientist whose creation becomes a monster. Published initially in 1818, the author revised her work several times by 1831. Reportedly Mary Shelley set out to “speak to the mysterious fears of our nature and awaken thrilling horror.” This novel has “become the most enduring ‘ghost story’ of all time,” way more popular than the author and “precursor of the existential thriller.
This Library-sponsored book group is led by Diana Cunningham, Librarian, who selects the books to be discussed, chosen in consultation with Tara Ferretti, Head of Public Services, with feedback and suggestions from the group. Registration is required with groups limited to 25 participants. Copies of the book to be discussed are available on a first-come, first serve basis.
