Somers Library Book Group “Huck Finn” and “James”

Friday, January 172:30—4:00 PMLocated in the Program Room
A Zoom Presentation

Available to attend either in person or virtual via Zoom.

A departure from our one book per meeting practice, we discuss two: Mark Twain’s classic “Huck Finn,” the nineteenth-century boy from a Mississippi River town who recounts his adventures down the river with a runaway slave, and Percival Everett’s “James,” an action-packed reimagining of Huck’s adventures from the enslaved James’ point of view. So how does a more current vision of Huck Finn handle the questions raised in the original story? Join us to discuss a powerful, ongoing subject.

This Library-sponsored book group is led by Diana Cunningham, Librarian, who selects the books to be discussed, chosen in consultation with Liz Anastasi, Head of Public Services, with feedback and suggestions from the group. Copies of the book to be discussed are available on a first-come, first serve basis.

Our programs are supported by the Friends of the Somers Library through our patrons' generous contributions.
