Sashiko Japanese Embroidery for Teens & Adults

Tuesday, May 144:00—5:30 PMLocated in the Program Room

Sashiko, literally meaning “little stabs”, is a form of decorative reinforcement stitching (or functional embroidery) from Japan. Traditional sashiko was used to reinforce points of wear, or to repair worn places or tears with patches. Today this running stitch technique is often used for purely decorative purposes in quilting and embroidery. The white cotton thread on the traditional indigo blue cloth gives sashiko its distinctive appearance, though decorative items sometimes use red thread. We will be making a coaster to use in your house with a flower pattern. Register and come learn this beautiful craft.

Our programs are supported by the Friends of the Somers Library through our patrons' generous contributions.
